Camping Characteristics and the relationship between them (Participant, Group, Facility, Facilitator, Activity and Process)
Camping as an Experiential Learning methodology is made up of a variety of characteristics, each with unique features. If applied intentionally we can be so much more effective in addressing the desired outcomes. This session will step by step discuss each characteristics and the dynamics of each. Certificate option: Participants that would prefer to receive a certificate from the Outdoor and Adventure Institute in South Africa would need to indicate as such and complete a small project/ assignment after the session – to be submitted 14 days after.

Temporary Communities for Camp Ministry I
God uses Temporary Communities to build his people. This session will introduce temporary communities as a tool for ministry. Participants will explore how God used temporary communities to build his people and his church.

Guided Discovery
In this session, we learn the benefits of experiential learning where educators purposely engage learners in direct experience and focused reflection in order to increase knowledge, develop skills and clarify values. The camp facilitators engage with young people/children through activities that are intentional with learning outcomes with a shared purpose, this fosters guided discovery.

Diverse and creative approaches to intentional programme facilitation (Programming, reflection, sequencing, etc.)
Programming can become so repetitive and “uninteresting”. We so easily fall into the pattern of programmes where groups rotate from one activity to another that we forget about all the wonderful alternative ways to compile programmes. This session will explore creative ways put old activities and processes together. Certificate option: Participants that would prefer to receive a certificate from the Outdoor and Adventure Institute in South Africa would need to indicate as such and complete a small project/ assignment after the session – to be submitted 14 days after.

Using Temporary Communities for camp ministry. The components of temporary communities will be presented, and examples in life transitions explored. Participants will present to one another outlines of camp programs that utilize the structure of temporary communities.

In this session, we look at Christian Education exploring through Learning outside the classroom with experiential education. Emphasising that learning can happen outside the classroom. The benefits of LOC for holistic development.

When Temporary Communities fail. This session will look at some of the possible pitfalls of Temporary Community. Participants will reflect on experiences when such failures undermined intended programming goals.
